P6 (U7): Be able to write and edit a news article for an identified purpose Annotated first draft Final Copy A Second Gold Rush for the British Film Industry The End of TV As We Know It?- An Abundance of Work to Come for Britain's Film Industry- The Likes of Disney and Apple Launch New Streaming Services to Compete With Netflix The  Streaming Wars  is an uncommon phrase in most households, however, this won't be the case for long as more and more people are choosing to cut ties (and wires) with paying for broadband services and deciding to adopt streaming services as their main mode of consuming film and television in their homes. Netflix originally found success renting out DVDs to consumers via the internet, but quickly changed the main focus of their business to their streaming platform and began making content solely available on their service in 2013. Nowadays it seems like every company is trying to buy share in the streaming market share, and with the intr...

Creating Material (U7: P5)

P5 (U7): Write an original article for an identified purpose A Second Gold Rush for the British Film Industry The Streaming Wars is an uncommon phrase in most households, however, this won't be the case for long as more and more people are choosing to cut ties (and wires) with paying for broadband services and deciding to adopt streaming services as their main mode of consuming film and television in their homes. Because of the large success Netflix found from not only making their streaming platform the crown jewel of their company (as opposed to their original DVD rental by mail service) but by making high quality original content only available for the service's subscribers. Nowadays it seems like every company is trying to buy share in the streaming market share, and with the introduction of Disney+ and Apple TV from their respective companies, Netflix is in danger of losing out in a market they once dominated. Young British users are keen to respond to this increase, as...

Researching & Planning (U7: P4, M3, D1) (U16: P3, P4, M1)

P4 (U7): Resarch and plan content for an original article Topic My proposed news article is going to be about how the increase of streaming service's and the content with them will be beneficial to London, English actors and film studios in the city. News Genre The article would most likely fall under the genre of Opinion Journalism as the majority of the piece will be based on the future of streaming services, a branch of entertainment which is new, the future of which is hard to predict. Proposed Interview/Survey Questions For my article, I am proposing to interview actors in London to find out their opinions on the possible increase in job opportunities from streaming services. The actors in question are Alex Shaw, an 18 year old stage actor who has acted in some of London's most prominent theatre's production and is trying to find work in the film industry and the second is an 18 year old actress called Tali Jackson. Similarly to Alex, she is a stage actress tr...

Elements of Sound (U16: P1, P2)

Image
P1 (U16): Explain how different sound elements are used Throughout the Indiana Jones film series, the punch sound effect (shown above) was heavily used in scenes where characters punched each other (with the only differences being changes in the sound effect's pitch throughout the film. The punch sound effect used in the Indiana Jones films was produced by a helper holding a microphone next to a foley artist slapping a large piece of meat (such as a steak or a ham). Because the density of the meat is similar to that of a person, similar vibrations bounce off said meat making the hit sound similar to that of a person. However, as it is unlikely that the exact sound has been made from hitting different parts of the body, the recording would have most likely needed to have been changed in post so it could have been used for all contact. The Assault Rifle that was used in the Halo series of games was made to sound and operate similarly to how a similar weapon would functio...

Structure, Purpose & Language of News Articles (U7: P3, M2)

Image
P3 (U7): Describe the structure and purpose for different news articles M2 (U7): Analyse the linguistic conventions used within different news articles The Times (Printed Newspaper) The Sun (Website) Daily Mail (Snapchat) Broadsheets, as opposed to tabloid newspapers tend to have more sophisticated and less colloquial language. This is mainly due to the fact that broadsheets tend to be more news centred whilst tabloids tend to focus more on celebrity news. The target audience of broadsheets are people in the A-C1 class grade whilst the target audience of tabloids are people in the C2-E class. The Times Print Copy The Times is a broadsheet newspaper meaning that its target audience would most likely be people in the A-C1 social grade. As its printed, the reader of the newspaper in the format would most likely be older members of the public as they would be less likely to use more digital forms of reading the news. This is because young people tend to be more technologically s...

News Markets and Platforms (U7: P1, P2, M1)

Image
P1 (U7): Explain the media market for different news providers P2 (U7): Explain the media platforms used for new distribution Case Study The coronavirus is a disease that began in China in late 2019. The first report of the disease came after a man supposedly ate a bat. The World Health Organisation has identified the symptoms of the disease early on before there were reports in countries foreign to China stating that patients will have cold-like symptoms. Currently, the virus has made its way to Europe causing high alert and resulting in China closing the majority of its borders. Because of the deaths associated with the disease, the majority of news outlets around the world are reporting on the coronavirus as it spreads in an attempt to raise awareness. The Sun is a tabloid newspaper and therefore has a very informal mode of address when addressing serious topics using shock factor titles to bring in viewers and always being sure to include the most shocking statistics ea...
